Founder & CEO | Kosei Sugimoto
Global Brand Strategist | Executive Producer

He specialises in connecting Japanese and global brands with their respective target markets and implementing brand strategies centred on storytelling.

His involvement with “storytelling” began early: he directed and wrote his first short film for his school’s cultural festival in his third year at lower secondary school, and went on to produce a 30-minute film at upper secondary school. Seeking to turn this interest into an academic pursuit, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he studied screenwriting at Birkbeck, University of London, and the fundamentals of filmmaking and media studies at the London College of Communication (formerly the London College of Printing), before spending approximately two years in Barcelona, Spain.

Through his interactions with artists and creators he met while living abroad, he came to realise that conveying the intent behind a work and the artist’s background as a “story” is the true essence of “artwork marketing” and “artist management.” To turn this conviction into a career, he returned to the United Kingdom and decided to enrol at Middlesex University London, which at the time was a pioneer in offering an undergraduate program in Music and Arts Management.

From student days through after graduation, he worked for four and a half years as the store manager at “INTERSTATE” (closed in 2013), a long-established boutique located in Covent Garden, London’s fashion hub. The store, which carried workwear and denim from the U.S., Italy, and Japan and garnered enthusiastic support from local musicians, actors, and media and art professionals, saw him lead a team of five to six local staff members in managing the store’s operations. During the same period while still a student, he also headed the artist management group “Vand Wagon” and worked on initiatives to connect creators in Japan and Europe.

While managing these ventures, I came to realize that—be it music, art, fashion, products, video, consumer goods, or even tools—“everything around us has a story, and if we can understand that story from the creator’s perspective and convey it accurately, its value will surely resonate.” This conviction, which would later become the foundation of IMINGiK, was born out of my daily life juggling both my studies and my work.

After returning to Japan, determined to realize that ambition here, he first joined a company in the “film and video” industry—the field where his career began. He later transferred to the International Rights Department at Nikkatsu Corporation, where he was responsible for acquiring foreign films and licensing domestic rights, before being reassigned to serve as secretary to the company’s president and CEO. Working alongside the president of one of Japan’s most historic film studios, he learned what it means to practice “dynamic” management.

Since then, he has worked across both Japanese and foreign companies, including Sony Pictures Entertainment; SEGA (where he served as Associate Producer on the fully CG-animated film Resident Evil: Vendetta at Marza Animation Planet); NBCUniversal; IMAX (Director of APAC Marketing & Content Development); and Amusement Media Academy (Deputy Director, Board of Directors | Head of PR Strategy Office, PR & Student Recruitment Office). Working at the forefront of entertainment and education—from video products to immersive theatre systems and education—he has built his career around management, branding, marketing, and international business.

During his time at Sony, the projects he oversaw were selected twice for the Nikkei MJ “Hit Product Rankings.” During his time at IMAX, he secured a special feature on “World Business Satellite” (TV Tokyo). In 2022, while serving as head of the division, Japan became the world’s third-largest IMAX market, contributing to the Japanese subsidiary’s revenue growth.During his time in the education sector, he achieved results across various industries and company sizes, including reversing a decline in targeted search volume to show growth compared to the previous year.

In May 2025, the company launched “IMINGiK Strategic Partners,” a branding and marketing business centered on its proprietary “Branding+” methodology. After gaining experience as a CMO at a biotech company, an executive officer and practice lead at a consulting firm, and providing support to the founder of an overseas tech company in expanding into the Japanese market, the company was incorporated as IMINGiK, Inc. in May 2026.
